Yesterday I came across my adoption paperwork and learned the name of my biological mother. (I was adopted at about a week old.) A Google search of her name led me to an ad posted on an adoption database by a biological sibling searching for me. I contacted the organization and asked them to pass along my details to the poster of the ad. About a half an hour ago I received an e-mail from my biological sister. Evidently my birth-mother passed away several years ago, and afterward her father informed her of my existence, which led her to reach out for me.
I'm not quite sure how to feel about all of this.
holy moly moly. moly.
fascinating.
how easy it was for you to find the information, internet: amazing.
i say sleep on it and see how you feel. you quite possibly have incredible family out there you haven't met yet who would be lucky and thankful to know and love you. you'll learn a lot about yourself while you learn about them. a new sister! terrific!

You lose one family member and find another. If they are reaching out to you I see no reason to reach back....it just might help heal the soul a little.

i say go for it, start an email corresondence, exchange a few photos, see where it goes. life is short. peoople die. people have regrets. your sis might have those bright eyes of yours and share your love of AC/DC. and mashed potatoes. (do you like mashed potatoes?)

Take it slowly and see where it goes. And don't worry too much about it. Just because you've made contact doesn't mean you must become lifelong best buddies, move next to each other etc. Relationships exist on all sorts of levels and no matter where you go with this one, you always have the option of ending it if you want to.
