Did anyone else get all misty watching this week's episode of "Deadliest Catch", or was it just me because of the losing a father thing? Shit, the last time I cried while watching TV was during Steve Irwin's memorial.
Can anyone explain to me why they sing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch of baseball games? September 11th was a long, long time ago, and they do the national anthem before the game, is this really necessary? I know this is JesusChrististan, where the whole country comes to a screeching fucking halt on Easter, but what was wrong with "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"?
How much longer does summer last? Walking outside in South Florida is like when you open the oven door to check on what you're cooking, being smacked in the face with heat. Fuck hibernating during winter, I'd like to pull the shades and go to sleep until fall.
Seriously, what's up with chicks and short and homely fellas? Any ladies care to explain this trend?
It wasn't just you. Watching this entire season of Deadliest Catch has been really emotionally charging, especially knowing the outcome of Phil Harris. My heart breaks for Josh and Jake. And anyone losing a parent, actually. Watching them live it on national TV is very difficult. Plus, I really loved watching Captain Phil, and he is sorely missed.

I have had a real hard time watching it this season. I don't think I will watch next weeks episode. it seems like they are setting us up for a moment where the family feels he is getting better when all the viewers know he dies and as much as it might of been Phil's wish to keep the camera's rolling, I do not think those boys emotions should be national entertainment. It's just me I think since you can be sure the ratings will go thought the roof.

The family did feel he was getting better, the turn he took was a surprise to everyone. That's already known. I'm certainly not one for exploiting people's misfortune or tragedy (if a tv crew came up to me after my child was murdered or something someone would need a team of surgeons to remove the microphone from their rectum), and while Phil agreed to have everything filmed and aired, I still have to believe the sons were on board with them airing the footage. I might just be naive, but it seems like the producers and crews all developed a good relationship, and I don't think they would air it if the kids weren't cool with it. And as long as the kids are cool with it, and Phil was cool with it, I have no problem.
What's more interesting to me, which I haven't heard or seen mentioned anywhere, is the youngest son being the final straw. He obviously was no health nut, but just before the stroke Phil was devastatingly disappointed by his son Jake. Imagine having that on your conscience. Assuming he has one.

I don't think that the producers of the show would exploits the Harris boys, or Phil's death at all. I had read earlier before the season even aired, that it was up to the boys to decide just how much they wanted shown of Phil's sickness and death.
I thought the same thing with Phil's youngest son. I know he was recently arrested for DWI? DUI? I can't recall which now. Although in an interview that Josh had given with People magazine I believe it was, he stated that Jake did get help in rehab. I certainly hope that is true.
